I Dont Konform is a three-piece metal band born out of the discontent and frustration of life on the Navajo Reservation. Where opportunity is limited and potential wasted; while resources are mismanaged by a tribal government who would rather line there own pockets and misappropriate funds for their own personal benefit than take care of their people. Originally brought together in 2008 by guys with similar backgrounds and interests with an idea of bringing the raw energy and aggression back to the underground Heavy Metal scene with some not so politically correct opinions and a "Non-Konformist" attitude. In 2010 the band relocated to Phoenix, AZ, "The Valley of the Sun", in search of new opportunities. After losing money on shitty demos, several line-up changes and a stale music scene brought on by a pay to play mentality with local promoters, not much progress was made. As 2012 rolled on, our momentum started to build. We released "We R IDK" E.P. and invaded local radio station KUPD with an unannounced set live from their parking lot during "Homberg's Morning Sickness" radio show. Through word of mouth and networking we soon became a sought after band, getting offers for shows by the Valleys' prominent heavy metal promoters. The excitement was overwhelming, the had the opportunity to open for bands that were influences and bands that we've only seen on vinyl sleeves and in music videos. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstance the band dissolved in 2014 with Kyle and Brett, the core of IDK, moving back to the Navajo Reservation. Upon our return and to our amazement there was an underground metal scene resurging. Along with a new drummer and less is more approach, IDK began a new ear as a trio. The sound got tighter and more intense with less glitz and frill that most local metal bands had already established. Despite our ups and downs and sometimes rocky journey, it has always been the music that has kept the idea and meaning behind being a "Non-Konformist" alive. Where ever we may end up we will always enjoy the simpler things in life (good food, good company, good times), awesome tunes, and keeping the true attitude and spirit of rock music alive. We are friends, we are family, and we have similar ambitions and goals. With our own unique blend of "old school, no school, and my school" we create an experience like no other. We R IDK......
Kyle Felter - Guitar/Vocals: 30 years old born and raised on the Navajo Reservation. I was raised on metal music, strictly 80s metal. I picked up the guitar when I was 14 years old to recreate the sounds of guitar solos from bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Randy Rhoads, Pantera, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Joe Satriani. I never took lessons, but that never stopped me from wanting to learn songs and eventually create my own style a blend of "OLD SCHOOL, NO SCHOOL, MY SCHOOL". I started IDK in 2008, playing originals right away, because being a cover band was never my style. Music has always been my escape, my guitar has always been an extension of what I think and how I feel. I play music because music chose me. I have always been a guitar player, never gave a second thought about singing. I soon got tired of line-up changes, singers coming and going so I decided to do it myself. Taught myself to sing and play and much to my surprise our fans enjoyed it. I am constantly looking for opportunities to take our music everywhere. To show that us Native Americans can make music with the best of them!
Brett Begay - Bass/Vocals: 25 years old, born and raised on the Navajo Reservation. My influences began at an early age with my mother and my father, and thanks to them I was exposed to the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. My father used to play in local metal bands when I was growing up and I remember going to the shows and experiencing energy and unpredictability of live music. I also picked up the guitar at an early age, trying to lean songs from Slayer, Sepultura, or thrash bands in general. I first ran into IDK through my sister, I went to a few of their shows becoming a fan and eventually became a roadie, helping load and unload equipment. It wasn't long after that they needed a bass player, despite playing guitar most of my life I was asked by Kyle if I could give the bass a shot. The rest is history. I have been playing bass for IDK since, and despite the ups and the downs, the bad ass shows and not so bad ass shows it has been an amazing ride. "From Fan, to Roadie, to Bass"
Randy Billy - Drums: 46 years old, born and raised on the Navajo Reservation. I started playing back in 1983 when Motley Crue's "Shout At The Devil" came out. That was the jolt that started the fire. Unfortunately my mom passed away soon after and things seemed to get worse and worse. After a downward spiral that led to jail time and almost suicide, the music almost died. I wasn't until I realized it was my mom that got me my first drum set and wanted me to pursue my interests in music. I started to play again and my life began to turn around. With a clearer head and weight lifted off of my shoulders the drums became beat that has kept this heart alive. After playing with local bands for a few years I met IDK in 2014 through mutual friends. I heard their music and at the time didn't think it was them on their E.P. They were looking for a drummer and they knew I was a drummer. We had a jam session and to my surprise our styles meshed well. Despite my age I really enjoy playing with these young guys. It takes me back to the days when the music was good.
